But the pain just as real.
Momma tries her best to comfort using the tried and true, but utterly useless phrases
"don't let them get to you",
"just bury it",
"What they say doesn't matter"
"sticks and stones,.."
And the boy feels of failure,
confused,
hurt
inept
useless
defenseless
helpless
Momma says it doesn't matter, but the little boy feels it so strong
confused. He just holds back the tears welling from deep inside.
The opening line to this is just riveting, nice piece as well.
ReplyDeleteIts weird how part of parenting seems to involve de-sensitising children in order to help them function in the world. God that sucks hard.

Lovely first line. A really nice piece and an almost flawless reproduction of the advice from my Mother when the "ginger" bullying started at 11.
